Welcoming Beth Beresford

Bruisyard recommended wedding supplier Beth Beresford joins us to share her top tips for successful wedding planning

A question I've posed to countless couples during my photography journey is, "What advice would you offer to other couples planning their wedding day?" Drawing from the wisdom shared with me, I've curated a collection of advice and insights to help you in crafting a day filled with lasting memories.

Start Planning Early

The key to a successful wedding day and one that doesn't involve high blood pressure in the build up, is thorough planning. Begin preparations well in advance. This includes selecting your date, venue, and vendors with time to spare. The more you plan ahead, the better and wider your options. As a wedding photographer, prime dates get booked 12-18 months in advance, starting early allows you the pick of the bunch.

Set a Realistic Budget

Determine your budget early in the planning process. Make a list of priorities, from the venue to the photographer, and allocate funds accordingly. I have many couples that do this early on and then find they have managed to save a little more than they had planned. It allows them to then indulge in a few treats in the build up to the big day which eases some of the stress.

Hire Experienced Vendors

Selecting reliable and experienced vendors can make a world of difference. Your photographer, florist, caterer, and other service providers should be chosen with care. Read reviews, ask for recommendations, and meet with potential vendors to ensure they align with your vision. The supplier's blog or Instagram is another great way to tell experience, you should be able to see a variety of weddings and set ups there.

Create a Detailed Timeline

Map out a timeline for your wedding day, from the moment you wake up to the last dance. Share this schedule with your vendors and bridal party to ensure everyone is on the same page. A well-organized timeline can help you feel more relaxed and in control.

Embrace the Moment

Once your big day arrives, take a deep breath and savor every moment. From getting ready with your bridal party to exchanging vows and celebrating with loved ones, these moments are once-in-a-lifetime. Don't let stress overshadow the joy of the day.

Delegate Responsibilities

Share the load with your bridal party and trusted friends or family members. Delegating responsibilities can help ease your stress and allow you to focus on enjoying your wedding day. Assign tasks like coordinating with vendors or helping with last-minute details. Or give each person a job on the day that they are responsible for, such as organising group photos, or co-ordinating the first dance.

Capture the Memories

Invest in excellent professional photography and videography services. These will be your lasting memories of the day. Ensure your photographer captures the style that you are looking for. Including candid moments, in addition to posed shots.

Dance the Night Away

Finally, let loose and dance the night away. The wedding reception is a time for celebration, so make sure you're front and center on the dance floor. Enjoy the company of your guests, savor the delicious food, and celebrate your love with laughter and joy.

Your big day is a unique opportunity to celebrate your love with family and friends. By following this advice and staying organised, you can make the most of this special day. Plan carefully, surround yourself with loved ones, and remember to embrace the moment. Your wedding day will be an unforgettable chapter in your love story, and with the right approach, it will be everything you've ever dreamed of.
